If you’re taking Wegovy (semaglutide) for weight loss and feel unusually tired, you’re not alone. Fatigue was reported by about 11% of people in Wegovy’s clinical trials, and it’s most common in the first few weeks and after dose increases. The good news is that for most people, Wegovy fatigue is temporary and manageable with a few simple changes.

Why Am I Feeling Tired on Wegovy?

Wegovy is a GLP-1 receptor agonist. It mimics a natural hormone that helps regulate insulin, digestion, and appetite. Those changes support weight loss, but they can also leave you low on energy while your body adjusts. The most common causes of Wegovy fatigue are:

  • Eating fewer calories. Wegovy helps you feel full sooner, so you may eat much less than your body is used to.
  • Dehydration. Nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea can leave you low on fluids, which causes fatigue, dizziness, and brain fog.
  • Electrolyte imbalances. Eating less and GI side effects can lower sodium, potassium, and magnesium, which your muscles and nerves need for energy.
  • Low blood sugar. Eating very little, or taking Wegovy alongside certain diabetes medications, can drop your blood sugar and leave you drained.
  • The adjustment period. Your body needs time to adapt to the medication, especially in the first few weeks and after each dose increase.

How Long Does Wegovy Fatigue Last?

For most people, Wegovy fatigue fades within a few weeks. In one study of people taking semaglutide, 44% reported feeling tired at week 4, 22% at week 8, and just 12% by week 12.

Fatigue often shows up in the first two to four weeks, then returns briefly after each dose increase. Some people also notice they feel more tired for a day or two after their weekly injection. If your tiredness lasts beyond the first few months, gets worse, or affects your daily life, talk to your provider.

Why Am I Tired After Eating on Wegovy?

Wegovy slows how quickly food leaves your stomach, so meals sit with you longer. Eating a larger meal than you’re used to, or a meal heavy in refined carbs, can leave you feeling sluggish or sleepy afterward. Smaller meals built around protein, fiber, and healthy fats are easier to digest and help keep your energy steady.

Does Wegovy Cause Sleep Problems?

Some people notice sleep changes on Wegovy, like trouble falling asleep, waking during the night, vivid dreams, or grogginess in the morning. Nausea, hunger changes, or low blood sugar at night can also disrupt sleep. Poor sleep then adds to daytime fatigue. A consistent bedtime, a light protein snack in the evening if you’re eating very little, and limiting screens before bed can help.

Does Wegovy Give You More Energy?

Not directly. Wegovy isn’t a stimulant, and many people feel more tired at first, not less. But over time, many people do report more energy. Steadier blood sugar can mean fewer afternoon crashes, and losing weight often improves sleep, mobility, and overall stamina. Once the adjustment period passes, a lot of people feel better than they did before starting.

How to Combat Wegovy Fatigue

Eat regularly, even if you’re not hungry. Skipping meals makes fatigue worse. Focus on small, nutrient-dense meals like eggs, Greek yogurt, smoothies, or soups with protein and greens.

Prioritize protein. Protein helps protect muscle and keeps your energy steadier, especially when you’re eating less overall.

Hydrate more than you think you need. Sip water throughout the day, aiming for 64 to 80 ounces unless your provider advises otherwise. An electrolyte drink can help, especially if you’ve had nausea or diarrhea.

Protect your sleep. Keep a consistent bedtime and wind-down routine, and cut back on late-day caffeine.

Move gently. Walks, stretching, or yoga can boost energy without overtaxing your body. Save more intense workouts until you’ve adjusted.

When Is Extreme Fatigue on Wegovy a Concern?

Some tiredness is normal, but extreme fatigue can mean you’re not eating or drinking enough, or that something else is going on. Contact your provider if you notice:

  • Dizziness or lightheadedness when standing up
  • Brain fog or trouble concentrating
  • Feeling cold more often than usual
  • Exhaustion after very little activity
  • Fatigue that lasts more than a few months or keeps getting worse

Your provider may check for low iron, low vitamin B12, or thyroid issues, or adjust your dose or eating plan. Seek urgent care for fainting, a racing heartbeat, or severe vomiting that keeps you from holding down fluids.

FAQ

Is fatigue a common side effect of Wegovy?

Yes. About 11% of people in clinical trials reported fatigue, most often during the first weeks of treatment. It’s usually temporary.

Can Wegovy make you feel weak or dizzy?

Yes, especially if you’re not eating enough or staying hydrated. Lightheadedness can also point to low blood pressure, low blood sugar, or dehydration.

Should I stop taking Wegovy if I feel too tired?

Not without talking to your provider first. Fatigue often improves on its own, and adjusting your dose, meal timing, or hydration can make a big difference.
